The Ponevetz Yeshiva of Bene Berak was reported on the Kikar Shabbat news site as having done Mivtza Tefilin on their premises.
This follows after forty years of rejection and criticism of the Rebbe's philosophy to help Jews fulfill the Mitzvos regardless of their current status of Judaism.
According to the reports on the ultra-Orthodox news site, Rabbi Lefkowitz, one of the school's Rosh Yeshiva's presented thirty people with a pair of Tefilin. He said, "From today, you are no longer Reshaim."
After his somewhat different style speech from Chabad's, the men ascended to the main hall, where students helped them use their new Tefilin.
It seems that their belief in the Nossi Hador's words and their commitment to his edicts are just as firm, albeit taking longer to digest!
Just a few days later, Rabbi Steinman, another esteemed Lithuanian Torah authority addressed the Odessa Jewish community saying, "The world doesn't know it, but there are generations that are dubbed '[the experiences of] the birth-pangs of Moshiach'. We are in that time immediately preceding the Geulah."
According to the Chadrei Chadarim news agency, Rabbi Steinman quoted the Vilna Gaon who compared the coming of Moshiach to birth. "The closer to birth, the greater the woman's pains are..."
"The Redemption is very near," he added. "We must do everything we can to fulfill Torah and Mitzvos, to the extent of self-sacrifice."
